What 2079 means
2079 is the qualification family for fluorinated gas work in the UK context — covering knowledge of regulations, safe handling, and system practices relevant to F-Gas duties. Training providers map their courses to the current City & Guilds specification; the exact unit codes on your certificate matter for REFCOM company F-Gas company certificates and personal competence records.
2079-11 — the theory paper engineers discuss most
2079-11 is the knowledge unit most Category I candidates talk about when they mean “the F-Gas exam”. It is delivered as an on-screen GOLA multiple-choice paper (commonly 40 questions). IF GAZ timed mocks and topic quizzes target the style and breadth of that assessment — always labelled as practice only, not official papers.
2079-12 and practical units
2079-12 (and any practical or centre-marked units your college assigns) covers demonstrated skills — brazing, recovery, testing, or centre workshops depending on delivery. Online revision cannot replace those hours. Use our pressure lab for paperwork and sequence revision, but attend centre practicals for hand skills sign-off.
Which should you book?
